Is my only option a rental car to get from the port of Santorini to my hotel?
-No of course not. There are also the following options. A local bus , 3 or 4 taxis and some mini vans that offer transfers. The problem with these options is that the local bus which is cheap goes only to Fira and gets full very fast, taxis are almost impossible to get, and the mini vans charge a small fortune with unfortunately often questionable quality of service. If for some reason you prefer not to drive, make sure that you have a reservation for your transportation before you arrive.
What happens if i decide to get a car once i arrive at Santorini Port?
-If you wait until last minute, it will be very difficult to find a car available. It is much better if you book your rental car for Santorini in advance. We have the possibility to accept bookings even for the same day. For example you can easily reserve a car in the morning for the same day.
How easy is it to drive the road up from the Port? I have read its quite steep.
-That is true. To get from the port (sea level) , to the top of the cliff where is the main road, its a bit steep. The road though is in a very good condition, and very safe. If you travel by Blue Star Ferries, Sea Jets, Minoan lines, Anek lines, Saos ferries, Zande Ferries etc you arrive at Athinios Port. If you are coming from any island like Naxos, Mykonos, Ios, Paros , Amorgos etc or from Piraeus the port of Athens, you ALWAYS arrive at Athinios Port.
Are there any restaurants at the port?

By Car

To reach the port of Santorini Athinios by car, is possible from the main road of the island. That's why it is important to hire a car in Santorini. The entrance to the port of Athinios is connected to the main road by a winding road. The port of Santorini is not near the main town of Santorini (Fira).The ferry terminal is located in the western part of the island, at the port of Athinios which is rather distant thats why the best solution is to rent a car in Santorini port.

By Bus

To reach by bus the port of Santorini Athinios, there are links between the main town of Fira, Santorini. The races and the frequency of the buses are scheduled according to the times of departure and arrival of the ferry.

By Taxi

You can get a taxi from the port Athinios, or to the Port from your hotel by taxi as well. You can do that only if you reserve the taxi in advance. If you don't feel like driving your self, we can help you with taxi service and private transfer service from the port of Athinios to any place on Santorini. Parking

These lines are written on September 2020 and the port right now is under construction, as well as not 100% functional. For the period 2020 there will certainly be limited parking area, and very often heavy traffic up or down to the port.

Terminal Facilities

Ferry Terminal facilities include a heated waiting room, Pay-phone, Hot & Cold Drinks Vending Machines and toilets. In general facilities are clean and adequate and many visitors find shelter from the Greek sun in the terminal.

Accommodation

Visitors will find a few rooms to let and accommodation at the port, and usually there are people waiting that own small hotels and rooms to let all around the island to find clients.
